On Friday, January 31, 2025, Ola Electric Mobility Ltd. debuted its new Gen 3 line of electric scooters. Ola's "MoveOS 5," their new EV operating system, is included with the new scooter line.

The EV manufacturer has introduced the new S1 Pro, S1 Pro+, and the cheaper S1 X and S1 X+. The S1 Pro is available in two variants: one with a 3 kWh battery and another with a 4 kWh battery. Meanwhile, the Pro+ provides both a 4 or a 5.3 kWh battery pack as available.

The Ola S1 X is available with 2, 3, and 4 kWh battery packs, but the S1 X+ only has a 4 kWh battery pack. Ola says that the Pro+ has an amazing 320 km range and a top speed of 141 kph.

How does Ola Gen-3 Break-By-Wire work?

The Gen 3 scooters also include Ola's patented 'Brake by Wire' technology. This employs a sensor on the brake lever to balance brake pad use and motor resistance, resulting in 15% longer range and double brake pad life.

The improved range is due to the electric motor's ability to regenerate electricity from braking. In contrast to previous generations, which used hub motors, the scooters have a mid-drive motor and an integrated Motor Control Unit (MCU). Aggarwal claims it is five times more efficient, reliable, and lightweight.

The scooters also include a chain drive with pre-lubricated O-rings, compared to the previous generation's belt drive. Ola believes the chains will survive twice as long as the belts.

During the presentation, Aggarwal also announced that Ola Electric will open 4,000 outlets and service centers across India by December 2024. This is despite the fact there will be approximately 800 stores in November 2024.

Aggarwal also claimed that Ola Electric now holds a 25% market share in India.
